Jalandhar: Nambardar Sarabjit Singh of village Sihowal tehsil Nakodar has been suspended from the post of Nambardar by Deputy Commissioner cum District Magistrate Special Sarangal on charges of burning stubble in his fields.
The Supreme Court and the Punjab Government have imposed a ban on burning of stubble after harvesting of paddy and have ordered to take action against those who violate it.
Commander Sarabjit Singh, whose first duty was to make other farmers aware about not burning the stubble by following the instructions issued by the Supreme Court and the Punjab Government, but Sarabjit Singh ignored these instructions and himself set fire to the stubble in his fields.
A challan of Rs 5000 has also been issued to Sarabjit Singh. Sarabjit Singh (suspended) will have to appear in person on November 28 to give his explanation.
