‘Dictatorial Behavior of Govt:’ MP Channi meets detained farmers at police station

Farmers are preparing to set up a front in Sector-34 of Chandigarh but the Chandigarh administration is fully prepared to stop them.

Former CM of Punjab and now MP from Jalandhar, Charanjit Singh Channi reached Gharuan police station of Chamkaur Sahib late at night to meet the farmers who were detained. There he talked to the farmer leaders and inquired about their condition. He also talked to the station in-charge over the phone.

Channi said, “Instead of giving the farmers their rights, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has resorted to violence and repression against them.  Farmer leaders are being picked up and locked up in police stations and jails across Punjab. Farmer leaders of Chamkaur Sahib constituency are also being arrested by the police. I strongly condemn this dictatorial behavior of the Punjab government.”

The United Kisan Morcha (SKM) will march towards Chandigarh from today (March 5) to set up a permanent front in Chandigarh. For this, farmers will move towards Chandigarh with tractor-trolleys. Farmers are preparing to set up a front in Sector-34 of Chandigarh but the Chandigarh administration is fully prepared to stop them.

Till now the Chandigarh administration has not permitted the said protest. A day before the march to Chandigarh, the Punjab government sent the police of their respective districts and either put many farmer leaders of the state under house arrest or took them into custody and brought them to the police station.
