District Magistrate Ashika Jain orders arms licensees to surrender arms in SAS Nagar

 SAS nagar: District Magistrate-cum-District Election Officer Mrs. Ashika Jain has directed the firearms license holders of Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar to deposit their firearms in the nearest police station with immediate effect in view of implementation of Model Code of Elections and upcoming Lok Sabha Elections-2024.

   She said that no fee would be charged for the deposit of arms by the police station, while a nominal fee of Rs 200 per month would be charged for the deposit of arms with the arms dealer.

  Taking stock of the status of firearms license deposit in the district today, She asked the ADC(J) to ensure the display of deposit fee outside every firearms dealer in the district for the convenience of firearms license holders. She instructed the SDMs to check these display notices as well.

 The District Magistrate further informed that a prohibitory order under Section 144 of CrPC prohibiting the carrying of arms, ammunition, explosive inflammable articles and sharp weapons in the district is already in force from March 16, 2024. She said non-compliance of this order may lead to legal action and prosecution under appropriate sections of the Indian Penal Code and other relevant laws.

  However, this order will not be applicable to army, paramilitary forces and bi-uniformed police personnel, bank guards and employees of cash and cash-carrying vehicles of banks who are authorized to carry and carry arms. are and carry arms as part of their official duties. Members of National Rifle Association will be exempted too.
