Encounter in Amritsar: Accused shot in leg; weapons & drug money recovered

Today once again an encounter has taken place between the police and the smuggler in Amritsar, Punjab. The police had received information about the famous smuggler Gurpreet Singh alias Gopi, a resident of Patti, Tarn Taran.

The police had received information about the famous smuggler Gurpreet Singh alias Gopi, a resident of Patti, Tarn Taran. After which the police laid a trap and planned to arrest him. But the accused tried to fire on police, but the police succeeded in catching him before that.

According to the information, the police had received information that Gurpreet Singh was traveling in a car with his associates. Based on this information, a special operation was conducted under the leadership of DCP Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, ADCP Harkamalpreet Singh, and ACP West Jashanjot Singh. The police team tried to stop the gangster at a place near Amritsar. But Gurpreet opened fire on the police team.

Seeing this, SHO Gumtala Chowki Ashwani Kumar fired at the accused. After which the bullet hit Gurpreet Singh’s leg. At present, the accused has been admitted to the hospital.

The accused was carrying weapons and drugs

Police have recovered a large quantity of weapons and narcotics from the encounter site. These include-

  • 9MM pistol and 11 live cartridges
  • 32 bore country made pistol and 15 live cartridges
  • 285 grams of narcotics
  • An XUV vehicle which was being used in criminal activities.

Criminal record of gangster Gurpreet Singh alias Gopi

According to the police, Gurpreet Singh was wanted in several cases and was evading the police for a long time. Gurpreet was involved in several cases of murder and conspiracy to murder. Apart from this, his name is also involved in arms smuggling and drug smuggling. Cases of Arms Act, NDPS Act and murder were already registered against him.

Police started investigation

Amritsar Police has described this encounter as a major victory against organized crime in Punjab. According to police officials, further investigation is underway to arrest other associates of gangster Gurpreet Singh.
