Amritsar: Amritsar Police of Punjab has busted an interstate arms smuggling gang. Police has arrested three main members of this gang and recovered three pistols (two 32 bore and one 30 bore), two live cartridges and a bike from their possession. This action was taken in front of Mata Bhadrakali temple in Gate Hakiman police station area of Amritsar city.
Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said that the arrested accused have been identified as Piyush resident of Lahori Gate, Kamal Singh alias Kalu resident of Indira Colony and Swayam alias Bholu resident of Khazana Gate.
The police had received information that illegal weapons were being smuggled from other states and supplied in Amritsar. Based on this information, the police team of Inspector Amolakdeep Singh, in-charge of CIA Staff-1, led by DCP Harpreet Singh Mander, ADCP Navjot Singh and ACP Detective Harminder Singh, conducted a special operation and arrested these accused.
The supply chain of arms smugglers broke
Three pistols and two live cartridges have been recovered from the possession of the arrested accused. This gang was operating a supply chain of illegal weapons in Punjab. Police suspect that more people may be involved in their network. The arrested accused have been involved in criminal activities earlier as well.
A case has already been registered against the arrested accused Kamal Singh alias Kalu. A case has been registered against the accused on 24 September 2024 at Gate Hakiman police station under sections 25/27/54/59 Arms Act and 125 BNS.
