Padma Shri Dr. Surjit Patar Young Literateur Award: Punjab Govt invites applications, Rs 1 lakh cash award

CM Bhagwant Mann had announced to start a new literary award in the name of Dr. Surjit Patar after his death.

The Punjab government has started a new literary award in the name of Padma Shri poet and litterateur Dr. Surjit Patar. It has been named “Dr. Surjit Patar Yuva Sahityakaar Award”. This award will be given to young writers who have made outstanding contributions in the field of literature. Under this honor, one lakh rupees in cash and a memento will be given.

Application process and conditions

Last date of application – 30 April
Eligibility – Any student living or studying in any corner of the world can apply.
Age limit – Below 25 years
Educational eligibility – Must be a student of any university, college or school.

To participate in the competition, one has to apply with four books.

Only those books will be included which are published in the year 2024.

The school, college or university will have to give a certificate of the originality of the books.

The Punjab Language Department will ensure that no book is objectionable.

About Surjit Patar

Surjit Patar died on 11 May 2024 at the age of 79. At that time, Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann had announced that the Patar Award would be given every year in the name of Surjit Patar. This award will be given to emerging poets. The award will be from class 8th to graduation level. The winner of the Patar Award will be presented with Rs 1 lakh and a memento every year. This award will be led by the Language Department.
