Pastor Bajinder Singh flees to Nepal, NCW demands arrest in sexual harrassment case

After an FIR was lodged against Pastor Bajinder Singh (42) of Tajpur Church, Jalandhar in Kapurthala, Punjab for sexually assaulting a woman, the victim's family has again made serious allegations.

However, SP Rupinder Kaur, the head of the SIT formed in the case, said that she does not have any information about this at the moment, but an investigation is being conducted on it. Both the parties were to appear before the Special Investigation (SIT). But the family claimed that the priest accused in the case has claimed to have fled to Nepal on the pretext of a private event.

In the latest development, National Commission For Women (NCW) has taken suo motu cognizance of media reports on Pastor Bajinder Singh, booked for sexual harassment in Jalandhar district, Punjab.

In a tweet on X (formerly Twitter) NCW posted, “Under the direction of Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar, NCW has taken suo motu cognizance of media reports on Pastor Bajinder Singh, booked for sexual harassment in Jalandhar, Punjab. The Commission has urged swift action under Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, including his arrest and protection for the victim. ATR & FIR copy to be submitted within 3 days.”

SIT is investigating under the supervision of SP Rupinder Kaur

The SIT has been formed under the supervision of SP Phagwara Rupinder Kaur Bhatti. DSP Deepkaran Singh and City Thana SHO Vikramjit Singh were included in it. The complainant woman had lodged the FIR in City Police Station. It was claimed in the FIR that Pastor Bajinder Singh of ‘The Church of Glory and Wisdom’ in village Tajpur, Jalandhar, misbehaved with her in Jalandhar. The woman had alleged that her parents had started going to the church since October 2017.

During this time, Bajinder Singh took her phone number and started sending filthy messages. The woman alleged that in 2022, Bajinder Singh started making her sit alone in a cabin in the church. There he used to sexually harass her.

A non-bailable warrant was issued in Mohali

Mohali District Judge (ASJ) Harsimranjit Singh on Monday issued a non-bailable warrant against Jalandhar pastor Bajinder Singh as he did not appear in court. The judge of the special court was on leave, so duty judge ASJ Harsimranjit Singh heard the case.

He had called the accused at around 11 am. The priest’s lawyer had submitted an exemption application citing some personal difficulty in appearing in the court. Advocate Mohit Verma, who appeared on behalf of the complainant girl, opposed the application. After hearing the arguments, the judge rejected the exemption application. Let us tell you that the Christian community had closed the highway yesterday in the above mentioned case.

Bajinder Singh had termed the allegations as baseless

Bajinder Singh met the media after the allegations of sexual harassment were leveled against him. He said that all the allegations made by the woman are baseless. If allegations are made then there should be some proof. He further said that the woman used to have seizures. She was suffering from evil spirits. She came to us for treatment. She is like our daughter and here also she lived like a daughter.

He further said- Vijay is from the same place where I grew up. Vijay is jealous of me. Due to this, efforts are being made to defame me. I work to connect people to God. The case registered against me is baseless.
