The summons to Sukhbir Badal underscores the significance of religious discipline and adherence to Akal Takht Sahib's directives within the Sikh community.

Chandigarh: The President of Shiromani Akali Dal, Sukhbir Badal, faces escalating challenges following a summons from Akal Takht Sahib over allegations raised by senior leaders of the party. The summons directs Sukhbir Badal to appear personally at Sri Akal Takht Sahib within 15 days and provide a written explanation regarding the accusations leveled against him.

The decision was made by Jathedars of five sikh takhts, led by Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh, following a complaint lodged by some senior leaders of Shiromani Akali Dal to Akal Takht Sahib. The complaint alleges that Sukhbir Badal did not express sectarian sentiments appropriately and seeks clarification on issues including the expenditure of ₹90 lakhs on advertisements by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC).

Key issues highlighted in the summons include allegations related to SGPC’s advertisements and concerns over blasphemy cases, with specific mention of the Dera chief’s support and related actions.

During the meeting, decisions were also taken to curb incidents of blasphemy within the shrines. Former Jathedar of Patna Sahib, Giani Iqbal Singh, faced religious sanctions for disregarding Akal Takht Sahib’s directives, resulting in a punishment involving 11 consecutive recitations of Japuji Sahib and a monetary penalty of ₹500, along with ritualistic obligations at Sri Akal Takht Sahib.

The summons to Sukhbir Badal underscores the significance of religious discipline and adherence to Akal Takht Sahib’s directives within the Sikh community. Political and community reactions are anticipated as the situation unfolds, with stakeholders emphasizing the need for transparency and accountability in addressing the allegations against the Shiromani Akali Dal President.
