SI went to resolve violent dispute, gets shot dead by village Sarpanch

When the police party tried to stop the attackers from doing so, some police personnel were also attacked.

A Punjab Police employee was shot dead by the village Sarpanch of Kot Mohammad Khan in Tarn Taran. The dispute between the Sarpanch and the other party had been going on for the past several days, regarding which, on receiving a complaint, SI Charanjit Singh reached the village with his police party where the Sarpanch opened fire on him.

When the police party tried to stop the attackers from doing so, some police personnel were also attacked. During this, they were injured. When the seriously injured Sub-Inspector Charanjit Singh was taken to the hospital for treatment, the doctors declared him dead.

After receiving information about this incident late at night, DIG Ferozepur Range Harman Bir Singh Gill along with SSP Abhimanyu Rana, DSP Atul Soni reached the spot and further legal action has been started.

There are also concerns that a police officer’s revolver was used during the shooting, but no confirmation has been made by police officials in this regard.
