Samrala: In a tragic accident that took place on Ludhiana-Chandigarh National Highway in Samrala of Khanna, a speeding Swift car hit an elderly couple going on a bike. The severe collision claimed life of the woman while her husband was seriously injured. The injured was referred to Chandigarh from Civil Hospital Samrala. The deceased woman has been identified as 55-year-old Pavitra Kaur, resident of village Chandran (Sahnewal).
According to the information, Gurpreet Singh (58) along with his wife Pavitra Kaur (55) were going to village Manki in Samrala to express condolences on the death of their relatives. The elderly couple was on a bike. They had to turn from Bharthala cut to Samrala from the National Highway. Meanwhile, a speeding Swift car hit them. After the accident, the Road Safety Force team reached the spot. Both were sent to the Civil Hospital by ambulance. There the woman was declared dead whereas after giving first aid, the injured Gurpreet Singh was referred to Chandigarh.
Police seized the car, investigation started
Road Safety Force ASI Tarsem Lal said that he had received information from the control room after which he came to the spot. First, the injured were sent to the hospital. The condition of the elderly woman was very serious at the spot, who later died. The car that caused the accident has been handed over to the Samrala police station. The police station will investigate the accident and action will be taken against the car driver.
