Chandigarh: On Tuesday, Shiromani Akali Dal’s disciplinary committee, led by Balwinder Singh Bhundar and joined by Maheshinder Singh Grewal and Gulzar Singh Ranike, expelled several senior leaders for purportedly engaging in anti-party activities.

The committee has expelled the following leaders from the party’s primary membership due to their continuous alleged anti-party actions: Gurpratap Singh Wadala, Bibi Jagir Kaur, Prof Prem Singh Chandumajra, Parminder Singh Dhindsa,  Sikander Singh Maluka, Surjit Singh Rakhra, Surinder Singh Thekedar and Charanjit Singh Brar.

Following the meeting, Balwinder Singh Bhandari alleged that the committee unanimously decided to expel these leaders as their sole aim appeared to weaken the Shiromani Akali Dal with the support of the party’s adversaries. He warned that any future violations of party discipline would be met with stringent disciplinary action.

The committee has also removed the current charge of seven Vidhan Sabha constituencies with immediate effect. New in-charges would be appointed soon after consultations with local workers and leaders. The affected constituencies are Nakodar, Bholath, Ghanaur, Sanaur, Rajpura, Samana, and Garhshankar.
