Continuing its zero-tolerance approach against corruption, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau has arrested a Sub-Inspector and his associate private operator for accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000. The accused have been identified as Sub-Inspector Sarwan Singh, Police Post-Incharge posted at Central Jail Ferozepur, and his associate, Pradeep Singh, Private Operator.
Disclosing this here today, a spokesperson of the State Vigilance Bureau said that a case has been registered against the said two accused following a complaint filed by Kuldeep Singh, resident of Mathare village, district Ferozepur.
The spokesperson further said that the complainant has stated that the Sub-Inspector had demanded a bribe of Rs 50,000 to help the complainant in a case registered against his brother and had taken Rs 20,000 on the spot through his private operator, Pradeep Singh. When the accused demanded the remaining amount, the complainant had also recorded his video.
The spokesperson further said that in this regard, a case has been registered against both the accused under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, as amended by the PC (Amendment) Act, 2018, at the V.B. Range Police Station, Ferozepur. Both the accused have been arrested and further investigation is underway.
