(This message was added in version 6.7.0.) in /var/www/thesaveratimescom/wp-includes/functions.php on line 6121As part of its drive against corruption, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau on Monday arrested Sanjay Kanwar, a Superintendent Engineer (SE) posted in the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation, on charges of demanding commission from a contractor.
Disclosing this information, an official spokesperson of the State Vigilance Bureau said that the arrest was made after investigating a complaint filed by a contractor from Ludhiana.
He further informed that the complainant approached the Vigilance Bureau and alleged that he had applied for a tender for a redevelopment project at Nehru Rose Garden, Civil Lines, Ludhiana and the said accused SE demanded a bribe in the form of 10 percent commission from him for allotting the tender. The conversation regarding the demand for a bribe was recorded by the complainant and submitted to the Vigilance Bureau as evidence.
The spokesperson said that after the preliminary investigation of this complaint, a case has been registered against the accused SE Sanjay Kanwar under the Prevention of Corruption Act at the Ludhiana Range Police Station of the Vigilance Bureau, and he has been arrested. He said that the accused will be produced in the competent court tomorrow and further investigation of the case is underway.
