Punjabi Couple Arrested in Canada After Newborn’s Body Found in Forest

Halifax: A Punjabi couple in Canada has been arrested after the body of a newborn baby was recovered from a forested area near Halifax. The shocking incident came to light after a woman reached a hospital in critical condition following childbirth, but doctors discovered that the baby was missing.

Police have registered a case against the couple for concealing the child’s body, obstructing police investigation and disrespecting a dead body.

Woman Reaches Hospital in Critical Condition

According to reports, a 23-year-old woman was brought to a hospital in the Halifax area at around 9:40 p.m. on Friday in serious condition. During examination, doctors found that she had recently delivered a baby, but the newborn was not with her.

The woman was reportedly unable to explain where the baby was. Following this, hospital authorities immediately informed the police.

Newborn’s Body Found in Forest Area

Police teams, along with volunteers, launched a search operation in nearby residential and forested areas. On Sunday afternoon around 3:20 p.m., the body of a newborn was recovered from a wooded area near Old Coach Road outside Halifax.

After the discovery, police arrested the child’s mother, Ramandeep Kaur (26), and her husband, Sukhpreet Singh (23), from the hospital.

According to police, the couple lived in Halifax’s West End area on Willett Street. Sukhpreet Singh has also been identified as a relative of the child.

Mother in Critical Condition, Investigation Continues

Police said Ramandeep Kaur remains in extremely critical condition and is battling for her life in hospital. Authorities clarified that her condition was caused by a medical emergency during childbirth and not due to violence.

Investigators are still trying to determine whether the baby was born alive or stillborn. The postmortem examination is being conducted by the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service.

    Allegations of Concealing the Body

According to investigators, the couple allegedly attempted to hide the baby’s body and mislead police officials. Authorities suspect the body was dumped in the forest area.

Police confirmed that the accused belong to the Indian-origin Punjabi community, though no further details about their hometown or background have been disclosed.

Two other individuals were questioned during the investigation but were later released by police.
