Punjabi youth drowns to death in a lake in Germany; family appeals for repatriation of mortal remains

Tragic news has emerged from Germany for a family in Amritsar. A young man from a local village has died after drowning in a lake there. This sudden tragedy has devastated the family and cast a pall of gloom over the entire village.

The deceased, Harshpreet Singh, was a resident of Budha Theh, a village near Beas in Amritsar. He was reportedly between 16 and 18 years old. His father lives in Germany; Harshpreet had gone there about a year ago to visit him.

Harshpreet had gone to the lake with friends

According to family sources, Harshpreet’s father has been living and working in Germany for the past seven years. Harshpreet obtained his visa last year and traveled to Germany to visit his father. While there, he went to a lake with some friends to swim. During the outing, he ventured into deep water and drowned. Despite the best efforts of his friends and locals, he could not be saved.

The family’s only son

Harshpreet’s mother tearfully explained that he was the family’s only son, and they had pinned great hopes on him. His untimely death has left the entire family shattered.

Appeal for help from Amit Shah and CM Bhagwant Mann

The grieving family and residents of Budha Theh village have appealed to the Government of India and the Punjab Government for assistance during this difficult time. His mother and the villagers have urged Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to personally intervene in the matter.

The family has requested that all necessary international formalities be expedited so that Harshpreet’s mortal remains can be brought back to India, allowing them to perform his last rites in accordance with their religious customs. Amidst the silent and somber atmosphere of the village, all the villagers have strongly demanded that the government provide all possible assistance to the affected family during this hour of crisis.
