Rahul Gandhi Likely to Attend Vijay’s Swearing-In Ceremony as Tamil Nadu CM in Chennai

Chennai: Senior Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, will arrive in Chennai today to attend the swearing-in ceremony of C. Joseph Vijay as the new Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.

High-Profile Ceremony at 10 AM

The oath-taking ceremony will be held today at 10:00 AM at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai. According to official sources, Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to land in Chennai at around 8:40 AM and proceed directly to the venue.

Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar will administer the oath of office to Vijay, who is set to assume charge as Chief Minister amid massive political attention across the state.

Major Political Transition in Tamil Nadu

The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), led by Vijay, emerged as the single largest party in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. Although it fell short of an absolute majority on its own, it secured support from multiple parties, enabling it to cross the required majority mark in the 234-member Assembly.

Following the results, the Indian National Congress extended support to Vijay’s leadership, along with backing from Communist parties, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, and the Indian Union Muslim League.

Alliance Support and Government Formation

With the combined support of alliance partners, the TVK-led bloc has reportedly secured around 120 MLAs, comfortably crossing the majority mark of 118. Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar formally invited Vijay to form the government after reviewing letters of support submitted at Raj Bhavan.

Vijay is expected to take oath along with a few members of his Cabinet today, while the full ministry expansion is likely to follow later.
