New Delhi: The Supreme Court dismissed a petition seeking an investigation into allegations of vote theft by the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi. The petition sought a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe into the Congress leader’s statements.
The Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was filed by advocate Rohit Pandey
He was urging the Supreme Court to direct the formation of an SIT to investigate allegations of vote theft made by Rahul Gandhi during the last Lok Sabha elections.
A two-member bench of Justices Surya Kant and Joymala Bagchi declined to hear the petition, stating that the petitioner should approach the Election Commission of India (ECI) in this matter. The court stated, “The Election Commission has the authority to investigate such matters.” You can go there and file your complaint.’
Court Dismisses PIL, Declares It Unjustified
With this Supreme Court directive, the demand for an SIT investigation into Rahul Gandhi’s allegations of ‘vote theft’ has now ended. The court clarified that only the Election Commission has the authority to investigate complaints related to the election process or results; the judiciary cannot directly interfere in this matter.
After hearing the petitioner’s arguments, the court declared that the PIL has no justification in this matter and is dismissed.
