Rain Alert in Five Uttarakhand Districts; Snowfall Likely in Higher Reaches

Dehradun: The Meteorological Department has issued a rain alert for Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Pithoragarh, and Bageshwar districts of Uttarakhand, with light snowfall also expected in areas above 3,800 metres. Other parts of the state are likely to witness partly cloudy skies and dry weather.

Weather Set to Stabilise After Western Disturbance Weakens

There is some relief for residents who have been experiencing cold conditions due to recent rain, hailstorms, and an active western disturbance. According to the Meteorological Centre in Dehradun, weather conditions are now stabilising, and most areas are expected to remain dry in the coming days.

Director Dr. CS Tomar said the western disturbance has weakened significantly, and no major weather activity such as heavy rain or storms is expected in the near future. The department has also clarified that no strong system is likely to affect the state over the next week.

State Bird Monal Spotted Amid Snowfall

In a notable sighting, the Monal—Uttarakhand’s state bird—was seen amid snowfall in the Darma Valley of Pithoragarh district. Known for its vibrant colours, the rare bird is typically found in serene high-altitude regions. The sighting, captured in a video that surfaced recently, is considered an indicator of the region’s clean environment and ecological balance.

Temperatures Likely to Rise in Plains and Hills

Following a drop of 8 to 10 degrees Celsius due to recent weather activity, temperatures have begun to rise again. In the plains, temperatures are expected to increase by 4 to 6 degrees over the next 4–5 days, while hilly areas may see a sharper rise of 7 to 10 degrees.

Partly Cloudy Skies Forecast for Dehradun

The state capital Dehradun is expected to experience mostly clear to partly cloudy skies. The maximum temperature is likely to hover around 31°C, while the minimum may settle near 14°C. No warnings have been issued for the city at present.

    Three-Day Weather Outlook

April 12: Light rain and thundershowers likely at isolated places in Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar, and Pithoragarh. Snowfall possible above 3,800 metres. Other areas to remain mostly dry.

April 13: Similar conditions expected, with isolated rainfall and snowfall in higher reaches, potentially increasing cold in mountainous regions.

April 14: Mostly dry weather across the state, though isolated light rain or thundershowers may occur in higher altitude areas of Uttarkashi, Chamoli, and Pithoragarh, along with light snowfall.
