Student Critical; Family Struggles for Blood in Ramnagar

Nainital, Ramnagar, April 20: A major instance of negligence within the healthcare system has come to light in Ramnagar. A female student was admitted to the hospital due to a severe blood deficiency, yet blood could not be made available in a timely manner. Despite the presence of a donor, the system remained helpless for nearly two hours, and ultimately, blood had to be procured from an external source.

Family alleges delay, referral amid critical condition

Meenakshi Negi, a resident of the Peerumadara area, fell suddenly ill on Saturday. According to her family members, she was suffering from a critical blood deficiency, and her condition remained precarious. Manoj Tiwari, the District President of the Government Primary Teachers’ Association, rushed the student to the hospital immediately; however, the situation there raised serious questions regarding the efficiency of the healthcare system. The family alleges that the doctors, citing the critical nature of her condition, suggested referring her to another facility.

Donor Present, Yet No Blood Available

The family members spent nearly two hours at the hospital, desperately searching for blood. The most shocking aspect of the incident was that, despite a donor being physically present, the hospital’s blood storage facility reported that no blood was available.

Given the gravity of the situation, Senior Deputy Chief Sanjay Negi was summoned to the scene. Following his intervention, blood was procured from Kashipur, which ultimately enabled the doctors to save the student’s life.

CMO Acknowledges Negligence

Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr. Harish Pant acknowledged that blood *should* have been available in the storage facility. He stated that if blood was indeed unavailable, prior intimation regarding this shortage should have been provided. Currently, the student’s condition is reported to be stable.
