Cabinet Tenure Over for Ravneet Bittu; Can Continue as Minister for Six Months

Union Minister of State George Kurien resigned. His Rajya Sabha term ended on June 21. The BJP did not give him a Rajya Sabha ticket again. Kurien is in a similar situation with Union Minister of State Ravneet Bittu.

Bittu, a former Ludhiana MP, also ended his Rajya Sabha term on June 21. He was also not given a Rajya Sabha ticket for the second time. In his place, Hindu leader Tarun Chugh from Amritsar has been sent to the Rajya Sabha.

In such a situation, questions are being raised whether Ravneet Bittu will also resign from the post of minister or not. There is suspense over his continued ministership. However, it seems unlikely right now because there are assembly elections in Punjab after about 8 months, so the BJP will not remove him or tamper with his portfolio.

Bittu Ravneet Bittu was elected as a Rajya Sabha MP from Rajasthan. The term ended on June 21. However, according to the rules, Bittu can remain a minister for 6 months without becoming an MP.

Under which rule can Bittu remain a minister for 6 months? In India, a person can become a minister even if he is not an MP (Lok Sabha or Rajya Sabha member), but he can remain in the post of minister only for a maximum of 6 months.

According to Article 75(5) of the Constitution:

If Bittu is not sent to the Rajya Sabha, he can remain a minister only till December 21. On this day, it will be 6 months since his term as a Rajya Sabha MP ended. Then he will have to resign.

What did Bittu say about this? Bittu did not say anything openly about not being made a Rajya Sabha candidate. However, he had already received a hint of this. Because of this, he had said even before the list of candidates came out that I have spent 17 years in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. Now I want to return from Delhi and work in Punjab. For this, I have also packed suitcases from Delhi.
