Bhubaneswar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) new data centre and Cybersecurity Training Institute in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. The facilities are designed to strengthen the central bank’s digital infrastructure and improve cybersecurity capabilities across the financial sector.
The new infrastructure will support the RBI’s computing requirements and provide a secure, reliable and scalable system for handling critical financial operations. The project, valued at ₹169 crore, comes as India’s banking and payment systems increasingly depend on digital technology.

Calling the inauguration an important step towards a more secure financial system, Modi said the facilities would strengthen digital infrastructure and cybersecurity capabilities.
RBI Data Centre to Support Critical Financial Systems
The new facility includes four state-of-the-art data centres that will host critical payment and settlement systems along with other key initiatives. These systems play an important role in the smooth functioning of India’s financial network.
The data centre has received Tier IV certification from the Uptime Institute, a global benchmark for data centre infrastructure. Tier IV is the highest classification under this standard and reflects a high level of operational resilience.
The facility is also among the largest Tier IV-certified data centre facilities in the banking, financial services and insurance (BFSI) sector worldwide.
The RBI expects the infrastructure to improve the reach, efficiency and reliability of digital financial services. It will also provide a secure foundation for the country’s expanding technology-driven financial economy.
Cybersecurity Institute to Focus on AI and Quantum Computing
Alongside the data centre, the new Cybersecurity Training Institute will provide a dedicated platform for training, research and the development of technical capabilities across the financial sector.
The institute will focus on emerging technologies relevant to banking and financial services, including artificial intelligence (AI), quantum computing and other advanced technologies.
Its work is expected to support specialised training and help strengthen the ability of financial institutions to respond to cybersecurity risks as digital transactions continue to expand.
PM Modi Highlights Banking Access for Small Entrepreneurs
Addressing the gathering, Modi said the government was committed to people-focused governance and balanced development across the country.
“We are committed to a model of pro-people, pro-active and good governance,” he said, adding that development should ensure villages and small towns receive equal opportunities to progress.
The Prime Minister also spoke about access to formal banking and credit facilities. He said people who previously lacked collateral were now able to access affordable loans to start businesses.
“From small entrepreneurs to traditional artisans, and from street vendors to workers in the unorganised sector, people are benefiting from formal banking for the first time,” Modi said.
The inauguration highlights the RBI’s investment in digital infrastructure and specialised training as financial services become increasingly technology-driven. The new facilities are intended to support critical banking operations while building expertise in cybersecurity and emerging technologies.
