Kabul: At least two people were killed and three others injured in a road accident in Afghanistan’s eastern province of Logar, the provincial police office reported on Sunday.
According to police, the accident occurred in the Azizkhan Qas area on the highway connecting Kabul to the eastern provinces. A rickshaw and a Hino truck coming from the opposite direction collided head-on. Police have attributed the accident to reckless driving. The injured were admitted to Logar’s provincial hospital for treatment.
Road accidents continue to be a concern in Afghanistan
According to the news agency Xinhua, road accidents remain a serious problem in war-torn Afghanistan. Poor roads, reckless driving, lack of safety measures, and difficult terrain often lead to fatal accidents.
Earlier on October 30, a passenger bus and an oil tanker collided head-on in Afghanistan’s northern Baghlan province. Five people were killed and 20 others injured in the accident, some of whom were reported to be in critical condition. According to the state-run news agency Bakhtar, the accident occurred on the Salang Highway and was attributed to driver negligence. All the injured were taken to nearby health centers. The agency stated that an investigation is ongoing.
Fatal accidents also occurred in Badakhshan and Takhar
On October 24, a passenger vehicle overturned in Badakhshan, Afghanistan’s far northern province. At least four people were killed and eight others injured in the accident. According to local media, the vehicle was passing through the Kofaab and Yaftal districts. The injured were admitted to the provincial hospital for treatment. However, officials did not disclose the cause of the accident.
Badakhshan is a mountainous and sparsely populated region. Its difficult terrain and limited road infrastructure make it prone to road accidents.
Earlier on September 23, eight people were killed and four others injured in a road accident in Takhar province, northern Afghanistan. According to provincial police spokesman Naqibullah Masoor, the accident occurred in the Ghazistan area of Kalafgan district. A vehicle skidded off the road and overturned, killing eight passengers on the spot.
The injured were admitted to Takhar provincial hospital. The police spokesman said the cause of the accident was under investigation.
