Police have arrested Deepak Bahadur, the absconding accused in the murder case of a woman and her son in the Sumari area of the district, from Delhi. He was produced before the District and Sessions Court on Monday and sent to jail.
Superintendent of Police Neeharika Tomar stated that on March 6th, at around 7:33 pm, Yogendra Singh, a resident of Sumari, called the Jakholi outpost in-charge to report the bodies. Police arrived at the scene, inspected it, and a forensic team collected evidence.
During the investigation, it was revealed that Deepak Bahadur, a resident of Nepal, had been living on rent with his wife and nine-year-old son for about a month. A foul smell emanated from the house, prompting residents to alert the landlord. When they arrived, they found the door of the room open and belongings scattered inside. The bodies of the woman and her son were lying under a blanket inside, while Deepak Bahadur was absconding. Police registered a case and formed two teams to arrest the accused.
Technical investigations revealed that the accused was in Delhi. Based on this, they arrested Deepak Bahadur alias Dil Bahadur, a resident of Dailekh district (Nepal), from Delhi on the evening of March 8th.
The two had met on Facebook.
Police interrogation revealed that the accused, Deepak Bahadur, was already married, with his wife and three children living in Nepal. The deceased, Kamala Shahi, was also married with two children. They met through Facebook in 2025. They subsequently began living together. They initially lived in the Mori area of Uttarkashi and had been living in Sumadi, Rudraprayag, for about a month.
Disputes Over Petty Matters
Local residents told police that Deepak Bahadur and Kamala Shahi often quarreled over domestic issues. A scuffle broke out on the evening of Holi following an argument. In a fit of rage, the accused strangled Kamala and then her son, Roshan, to death. After the incident, the accused covered the bodies with a blanket and fled.
