Sangrur Accident: 8 Road Workers Dead, Witnesses Claim Delay in Ambulance Arrival

Sangrur: A car allegedly crushed laborers standing on the roadside on Jakhal Road near Chotiyan village in the Lehragaga area of ​​Sangrur district, Punjab. At least 8 laborers were killed in the accident, while several others were injured. Witnesses alleged that some of the injured died while waiting for an ambulance.

Speeding car hits laborers

According to media reports, the accident occurred when a Chevrolet Optra Magnum car allegedly lost control and hit more than 20 laborers standing on the roadside.

The car driver has been identified as Pargat Singh Kala, a resident of Raidharana village. He is reported to have fled the scene after the accident.

The deceased include six women and two men. Seven of them were reportedly residents of Alisher village. According to reports, five workers died on the spot, while others succumbed to their injuries during treatment.

Witnesses claim delay in ambulance arrival

Harvinder Singh, who works at a nearby factory, said he rushed to the scene after learning about the incident. He described the scene as horrific, with several injured workers lying on the roadside.

Eyewitnesses alleged that despite police calls for medical assistance, it took nearly an hour for an ambulance to arrive. They claim that some injured workers continued to writhe in pain during this time.

However, allegations regarding the delay in ambulance arrival and the resulting deaths have not been independently confirmed.

Leaders express grief

Punjab Cabinet Minister Barinder Kumar Goyal expressed grief over the deaths in the accident and assured assistance to the affected families.

Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Warring also expressed condolences. They demanded immediate medical assistance for the injured, strict action against those responsible, and adequate compensation for the families of the deceased.

Police Launch Investigation

Police have launched an investigation into the accident. According to reports, raids are underway to locate and arrest the absconding driver.
