Schools Cannot Raise Fees Arbitrarily in Punjab; Violators Face Derecognition

No private educational institution in Punjab will be able to increase fees by more than 5 percent in a year. In this regard, the ordinance has been approved in the cabinet meeting. It has been sent to the Governor for final approval.

This information was given by Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema and Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains after the cabinet meeting. He said that if any school has increased the fees by more than 15 percent in the last 36 months, then it will have to return the money to the parents.

He said that if any school wants to increase the fee by 5 percent, then a committee has been formed for it. For this, schools will have to apply 6 months in advance. At the same time, the school has to conduct its financial audit. The school will have to explain why the fees have been increased.

All schools will have to inform about the fixed fees two months before the start of each academic session. This rule will be applicable to all Punjab School Education Board, CBSE, ICSE and International Board.
