Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Yatra postponed due to heavy rainfall

Srinagar: The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board on Saturday announced the postponement of the annual pilgrimage, originally scheduled to commence on September 14, citing incessant rainfall in the Bhawan area and along the yatra track.

In an official statement, the board said, “The commencement of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Yatra, scheduled for September 14, has been postponed until further notice.” The decision was taken after continuous downpours triggered concerns about the safety of devotees and the condition of the trekking route leading to the revered shrine located in the Trikuta Hills near Katra, Jammu and Kashmir.

Authorities said heavy rainfall in the past 48 hours has led to waterlogging, landslide threats, and slippery stretches along the pilgrimage track, making the route unsafe for large-scale movement of devotees. Officials further added that restoration and safety checks are being carried out to ensure the route is secure before reopening the yatra.

The Shrine Board has urged devotees to remain patient and to avoid paying heed to unverified reports circulating on social media. “All pilgrims and media outlets are advised to rely strictly on official communication channels for timely updates regarding the resumption of the yatra,” the statement read.
