Smuggling Network Busted in Amritsar: 5 Arrested; 8 Pistols and Cartridges Seized

The Amritsar Commissionerate Police today busted an interstate illegal arms smuggling module, arresting five accused individuals. The police recovered eight sophisticated pistols and a large quantity of ammunition from their possession. This operation has dealt a major blow to the illegal arms and narcotics trafficking networks active in Punjab.

According to information provided by the DGP of Punjab, preliminary investigations have revealed that the arrested accused were in contact with a foreign smuggler. They communicated with him using virtual numbers and procured consignments of weapons and narcotics via drones from across the border. These materials were subsequently supplied to various criminal elements within Punjab.

Police Conducting Thorough Investigation of the Entire Network

Police investigations have also revealed that this module had been active for a considerable period and was supplying illegal weapons to individuals linked to organized crime. An FIR has been registered against the accused at the Cheharta Police Station in Amritsar. The police are currently conducting a thorough investigation into the entire network.

Security Agencies on Alert to Curb Smuggling

The Punjab Police have stated that continuous action will be maintained in the state under a “zero-tolerance” policy against narcotics, illegal weapons, and organized crime. According to officials, security agencies remain on high alert to thwart smuggling attempts carried out via drones from across the border. Comprehensive operations are being conducted to dismantle such networks.
