Special AAIB Team to Probe Baramati Plane Crash, Officials Say

A special team from the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has been dispatched to investigate the plane crash at Baramati Airport that killed Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and four others. The AAIB, which is responsible for probing civil aviation accidents and serious incidents, will examine all aspects of the accident.

Scope of the Investigation

The AAIB team will visit the crash site near Baramati in Pune district and conduct a detailed examination of the wreckage, gather evidence, and analyse flight data as part of the probe. The bureau’s mandate includes classifying the occurrence, determining the cause, and recommending safety measures to prevent similar accidents in the future.

Details of the Baramati Plane Crash

The aircraft involved was a Learjet 45XR chartered from Mumbai to Baramati for official travel when it crash-landed during its approach to the runway, killing all five people on board, including Pawar. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has also confirmed the casualties and is cooperating with the investigation.

Aim of the Probe

The AAIB’s investigation will examine multiple factors such as weather conditions, aircraft performance, crew actions, air traffic control communication, and technical data from the flight recorders. Officials aim to issue a preliminary report that can shed light on the causes behind this tragic crash.
