Four Killed, 10 Injured in Mass Shooting at Child’s Birthday Party in Stockton, California

A tragic shooting occurred at a birthday party in Stockton, California, late Saturday night. An unidentified gunman opened fire at a child’s birthday party at a banquet hall on Lucille Avenue, killing four people and seriously injuring 10 others.

Authorities say a total of 14 people were shot, with four of them later dying in hospital. The injured were rushed to nearby hospitals.

Witnesses said they initially thought it was fireworks, but within seconds, they realised it was gunfire, and people started running.

“It is very sad to see such a horrific incident at a birthday party,” the deputy mayor said.

“My heart is heavy today. I am deeply saddened and angry about this mass shooting at a child’s birthday party. The families of the victims deserve justice and all the help they can get,” Deputy Mayor Jason Lee wrote on Facebook.

He said birthday parties should be a place where families feel safe, not a place where they try to save their own lives.

“As a leader, it breaks my heart to see my people going through all this,” he said.

Victims include both children and adults

According to the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office (SJCSO), the victims of the shooting included both children and adults.

Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Heather Brent said:

“Initial indications indicate this was a planned attack. Our first priority is to identify the shooter.”

Shooter still at large, investigation underway

At this time, the motive for the shooting and the identity of the shooter have not been released. Police have cordoned off the area and are investigating and reviewing CCTV footage.

The city of Stockton is reeling from this tragic incident, and officials are calling it one of the most serious mass shootings in California in recent memory.
