SAD President Sukhbir Badal Slams Punjab Govt over Security Withdrawal of Gippy Grewal, Jordan Sandhu

Chandigarh: SAD President Sukhbir Singh Badal has alleged that the security cover of prominent Punjabi actor-singer Gippy Grewal was withdrawn after the artist met him at his residence in Badal village.

In a social media post, the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president also claimed that the security cover of another Punjabi singer, Jordan Sandhu, has been withdrawn.

Raises Concern Over Threats to Artists

Badal stated that it is widely known that Punjabi singers and actors face serious threats from gangsters and extortion networks. He alleged that the withdrawal of police security was done “on the whims and fancies” of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.

He strongly condemned the alleged move, terming it “vindictive” and politically motivated.

Reference to Sidhu Moose Wala’s Murder

In his statement, Badal cited the killing of Sidhu Moose Wala as a “chilling reminder” of the risks faced by Punjabi artists. Moose Wala was shot dead in broad daylight in 2022, an incident that had sparked nationwide outrage and debates over security withdrawal.

Badal warned that if any harm comes to the artists, the Chief Minister would be held responsible.

Issue to Be Raised with Punjab Governor

The SAD chief further said he would take up the matter with the Punjab Governor, seeking intervention over the alleged withdrawal of security protection.

There has been no immediate official response from the Punjab government regarding the claims.
