Supreme Court refuses to ban CJP’s September 5 Delhi march, leaving authorities responsible for law and order

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday refused to immediately ban the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP)’s proposed march in Delhi on September 5. The court stated that there was currently no solid basis to believe that the march was likely to lead to any untoward incident.

Maintaining law and order is the administration’s responsibility

A bench headed by Chief Justice of India, Justice Surya Kant, stated that maintaining law and order during the proposed protest is the responsibility of the government and the police administration.

The court stated that all parties should conduct their activities peacefully and within the ambit of the law. The decision regarding permission for the march and the conditions imposed on it has been left to the concerned administrative authorities.

Preparations for the September 5 March

The CJP has announced a protest march in Delhi on September 5. The party claims that the expected action has not yet been taken on some of the promises and demands made during the previous student protests.

The party is preparing to register its protest against the government on these issues through the proposed march. Questions related to security and public order have also been raised.

Next hearing in the Supreme Court on September 10th

The Supreme Court has issued notice in this matter, but declined to hear the case immediately before September 5th. The next hearing will now be on September 10th.

The court has also directed the petitioner to raise his concerns before the high-powered inquiry committee formed to investigate allegations related to police action during the protest.
