Suspects spotted in Sufain; Security Forces Cordon Off Area

Security agencies have been put on high alert following the sighting of suspects once again on Monday in Ambenal, located within the Sufain area of ​​Kathua district. Exactly one year ago, four police personnel were martyred in this very area during an encounter with terrorists who had infiltrated from Pakistan. Situated adjacent to the Ujh River, this region also serves as a transit route leading into the mountains following an infiltration attempt. Security forces have cordoned off the area in an effort to neutralize the suspects.

Ambenal in Sufain falls under the jurisdiction of Rajbagh. According to sources, a local resident spotted two armed suspects carrying heavy bags and heading toward the forest. Upon receiving this information, the Police, SOG (Special Operations Group), Army, and CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force) rushed to the area and launched a search operation.

By late evening, no trace of the suspects had been found. To prevent their escape, security forces have established a cordon from both the Kathua and Billawar sides. While the area is being thoroughly scoured, strict surveillance is also being maintained over potential escape routes. Areas such as Panjtirthi, Bhini Nallah, Barota, Aglidhar, and their surroundings in Billawar are also being combed inch by inch.

It is pertinent to recall that in late March of last year, security forces neutralized two Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorists—who had infiltrated from Pakistan—in this very region following a two-day-long operation. Four police personnel were also martyred during that operation.

Medicines and Injections Recovered in Suchar Forest

According to sources, during a patrol in the forests of Suchar in Billawar, security forces discovered certain medicines, injections, and energy drinks. It is reported that these specific injections are also commonly used for animals. Consequently, at this juncture, the discovery is not being directly linked to the presence of terrorists in the region; however, the recovery of such supplies in a remote area far removed from human habitation has prompted heightened vigilance among the security forces. Terrorists Plotting to Infiltrate and Establish Bases in the Mountains

Although security forces have sealed off the traditional infiltration routes along the India-Pakistan international border, terrorists have continued to utilize the old Ujh route to facilitate their movement within the region. In particular, following infiltration, terrorists have consistently used the Ujh River and its tributary streams to make their way into the mountains. Ambenal is also situated along this very route. Terrorist movement into the hilly terrain of Lohai-Malhar has persisted via the Ujh corridor.
