Tamil Nadu TET Begins Today; Belts, Shoes and Digital Watches Banned at Exam Centres

Chennai: The Tamil Nadu Teacher Eligibility Test (TNTET) 2026 commenced on Saturday under heightened security arrangements across the state, with candidates required to follow strict exam-day guidelines issued by the Teachers Recruitment Board (TRB). Authorities have prohibited belts, shoes, digital watches and other electronic devices inside examination centres to ensure a fair and transparent examination process.

The Teacher Eligibility Test is being conducted over two days, with Paper I on July 4 and Paper II on July 5. The examination determines the eligibility of candidates seeking appointments as secondary grade and graduate teachers in government and private schools across Tamil Nadu.

Strict Entry Rules for Candidates

Candidates have been instructed to report to their allotted examination centres by 8:30 am, while entry gates will close at 9:30 am. No candidate will be allowed to enter the examination hall after the stipulated time.

Only the hall ticket, a valid photo identity card, and two black ballpoint pens are permitted inside the examination hall. Mobile phones, smart watches, calculators, Bluetooth devices and other electronic gadgets are strictly prohibited. Belts, shoes and digital watches have also been barred as part of the security protocol.

Enhanced Security Measures in Place

To ensure smooth conduct of the examination, the TRB has implemented multiple security measures, including CCTV surveillance at examination centres, secure transportation of question papers, double-lock storage systems and police deployment. District-level committees are monitoring the examination process across the state.

Special arrangements have also been made for Persons with Disabilities (PwD), including ground-floor seating wherever required, the provision of scribes for eligible candidates and an additional one hour to complete the examination.

Over 2.29 Lakh Candidates Appearing

According to official data, around 2.29 lakh candidates are expected to appear for the two-day examination. Paper I is being held at 222 examination centres, while Paper II will be conducted at 613 centres across Tamil Nadu. Authorities have advised candidates to reach their centres well in advance and strictly comply with the prescribed guidelines to avoid last-minute inconvenience.
