Shopkeeper Held for Assault, Blackmail in Tanakpur

Champawat, April 21: A case of rape and blackmailing has been registered against a shopkeeper in Tanakpur, who runs a footwear store, following complaints filed by two female employees working at his shop. Acting swiftly upon receiving the complaints, the police arrested the accused.

According to the complaint lodged at the Tanakpur Kotwali (Police Station), the accused shopkeeper allegedly forced himself upon both women working at the store. The victims have leveled serious allegations of exploitation against the accused.

The complaint further states that the accused also recorded compromising videos during this period. Subsequently, he used these videos to pressure the women by threatening to send them to their family members.

Allegations of Mental Harassment for Demanding Wages

The victims have also alleged that when they demanded their wages in exchange for their work, the accused took advantage of their financial vulnerability. Furthermore, they were subjected to mental harassment, and the blackmailing continued unabated.

According to the police, a case has been registered under the relevant sections of the law. The accused has been arrested, and further legal proceedings are underway in accordance with judicial protocols.
