Heroin Worth ₹55 Crore Seized in Tarn Taran; BSF, Punjab Police Recover 10.9 Kg Drone-Dropped Consignment

Tarn Taran: In a major anti-narcotics operation, the Border Security Force (BSF) and Punjab Police recovered 10.9 kg of heroin, valued at around ₹55 crore in the international market, from fields near the Indo-Pak border in Punjab’s Tarn Taran district. The contraband is suspected to have been dropped into Indian territory by a drone from Pakistan.

Police have registered a case against unknown smugglers under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and further investigation is underway.

Joint Search Operation Launched After Intelligence Input

According to police, the Valtoha Police Station received specific information late at night that packets of narcotics had been dropped by a drone in agricultural fields belonging to Jaswinder Singh, son of Bali Singh, near the bahkan (outlying farmland) of Lakhna village.

Acting on the tip-off, Head Sub-Inspector Vipin Kumar led a police team to the spot. A joint search operation was carried out with BSF personnel in the suspected area.

10.9 Kg Heroin Recovered From Fields

During the search, security personnel recovered a plastic bag and several loose packets from the fields. On weighing the seized contraband, officials found a total of 10 kg 900 grams of heroin.

The recovered narcotics have an estimated international market value of around ₹55 crore, making it a significant seizure in the border district.

NDPS Case Registered, Probe Underway

The seized heroin has been taken into police custody. A case has been registered against unknown persons under the NDPS Act at Valtoha Police Station.

Investigators are working to identify the smugglers involved and ascertain the intended recipients of the drone-dropped consignment. Police are also probing the cross-border smuggling network behind the operation.
