Thai woman arrested for drug smuggling at Amritsar Airport; over 1.5 kg narcotics held

Security agencies at Sri Guru Ram Das Ji International Airport in Amritsar have achieved a major success in their fight against drug trafficking. A young woman who arrived from Thailand has been arrested on charges of drug smuggling. Authorities recovered more than 1.5 kilograms of suspected narcotics from her possession, which is estimated to be worth crores of rupees in the international market.

The operation was carried out by a joint team of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) and the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF). Security agencies had received prior intelligence that a consignment of narcotics might be smuggled into the country via Amritsar Airport. Based on this information, special surveillance was maintained at the airport late Monday evening.

As soon as the flight from Thailand landed in Amritsar, the woman was stopped due to suspicious activity. During the search, a large quantity of narcotics was recovered from her luggage. She was immediately taken into custody.

Agencies working to uncover links to international drug network

The arrested woman is currently being interrogated. Investigating agencies are trying to determine who instructed her to bring the narcotics and which international drug trafficking network is behind this operation. They are also trying to ascertain who the consignment was intended for in Punjab or other parts of the country.

Security agencies say that more arrests are likely in the coming days. The increased vigilance at Amritsar Airport is considered a major blow to drug traffickers. The investigation is ongoing.
