12-Year-Old Boy Dies After Neighbouring House Collapses on Family in Thane

Mumbai: A 12-year-old boy was killed and two of his family members were injured after a portion of a neighbouring house collapsed onto their home in Maharashtra’s Thane district, officials said.

The incident occurred at around 3:35 p.m. on Friday in Madras Chawl, Azad Nagar, Brahmand, triggering a rescue operation by local authorities and emergency response teams.

According to officials, the affected structure was a ground-plus-one-storey building, estimated to be 25 to 30 years old. Preliminary investigations suggest that a section of the building’s gallery suddenly collapsed and fell onto the adjoining house, where members of the Jaiswal family were asleep.

Boy Succumbs to Injuries, Two Family Members Hospitalised

The deceased was identified as Jaykumar Jaiswal (12). He sustained critical injuries in the collapse and was rushed to the Civil Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Two other family members, Urmila Jaiswal (35) and Vinit Jaiswal (9), suffered head injuries in the incident. Both were admitted to Titan Hospital in Manpada, where they are undergoing treatment. Their condition is reported to be under medical observation.

Authorities Evacuate Nearby Houses

As a precautionary measure, authorities evacuated three neighbouring houses in Madras Chawl to prevent further casualties.

Officials said structural inspections and debris clearance are being carried out jointly by the Majiwada Ward Committee, the Public Works Department (PWD) and the Encroachment Department to assess the safety of nearby buildings.

Emergency teams, including two fire engines, a rescue vehicle, a disaster management utility vehicle and an ambulance, were deployed to the site. Rescue personnel secured the area while debris removal and inspection work continued.

Second Fatal House Collapse in Mumbai Region This Week

The incident comes days after another fatal house collapse in Mumbai’s Mankhurd on July 7, in which six people were killed and one person was injured after a neighbouring structure collapsed onto their home in Janata Nagar.

According to local residents, the affected family had expressed concern over the deteriorating condition of the adjoining building and had planned to shift to another location. However, before they could relocate, the weakened structure collapsed during heavy rainfall, leading to the deaths of six family members.

Authorities are investigating the Thane incident to determine the exact cause of the collapse.
