Tharoor Defends Digvijaya’s Analogy of RSS and Congress, Emphasises Need for Party Discipline

New Delhi: Congress MP Shashi Tharoor on Sunday supported senior party leader Digvijay Singh’s remarks on organizational strength, saying that Congress also needs more discipline and unity.
Commenting on Digvijay Singh’s praise of the organizational strength of the RSS and BJP during a conversation with reporters in Delhi, Tharoor said,

“I also want our organization to be strong. There should be discipline in our organization. Digvijay Singh can speak for himself.” (ANI)

This statement comes after Digvijay Singh sparked a political debate by sharing an old photo of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP leader L.K. Advani.

What did Digvijay Singh say? Controversy erupts over comparisons with the RSS

In a post, Singh praised the organizational capabilities of the RSS and the BJP, writing:

“Found this picture on Quora. Very impressive.”

He described how an RSS worker and a grassroots worker from the Jan Sangh/BJP made the journey from Chief Minister to Prime Minister. He described this as “the power of organization.”

In this post, Singh tagged several Congress leaders, including Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, Jairam Ramesh, and Priyanka Gandhi.

    Mixed reactions within the Congress

There was a mixed response within the Congress party to Digvijay’s remarks.

Sachin Pilot said the Congress was united and every leader had the right to express their opinion.

Meanwhile, Pawan Khera strongly rejected any learning from the RSS. He said:

“There is nothing worth learning from the RSS. What can an organization known for Godse teach Gandhi’s organization?” (ANI)

BJP counterattack, taunt on Rahul Gandhi

The BJP called it an internal Congress issue but also launched a counter-attack.

BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi, citing former US President Barack Obama’s book *The Promised Land*, commented on Rahul Gandhi as suffering from a “lack of knowledge and confidence.”

Digvijay Singh’s clarification – “I am against the RSS”

Amidst criticism from the BJP, Digvijay Singh clarified that his post was misinterpreted.
    He said:

“You misunderstand. I spoke about the power of organization. I am a staunch opponent of the RSS and Modiji.” (PTI)

Earlier, on December 19th, he had also praised Rahul Gandhi’s leadership while talking about reforms in the Congress.
