Tin Shed Collapses at Lucknow Charbagh Railway Station: 3 People including TTE Seriously Injured

The tin shed on Platform Number 5 of Lucknow’s Charbagh Railway Station collapsed on Friday morning. A TTE (Traveling Ticket Examiner) and two passengers sustained serious injuries in the incident. The RPF (Railway Protection Force) is currently conducting rescue operations. All three injured individuals have been admitted to a hospital.

The Howrah-Dehradun Express (13037) had arrived at this very platform but was subsequently halted. Officials summoned a crane to the site, which is being used to clear the collapsed section of the tin shed. DRM Sunil Kumar has ordered an inquiry into the incident.

According to sources, preliminary investigations reveal that renovation work is currently underway at the station. The pillars and railings supporting the tin shed had been dismantled in certain sections. Consequently, the structural support for the tin shed on Platform Number 5 was compromised, leading to its collapse.

How the Accident Occurred

Platform No. 4 had been closed due to renovation work at the station, while Platform No. 5 remained open. On Friday morning, around 8:00 AM, the Intercity Express departed from Platform No. 5. Most of the passengers boarded the train and left.

According to eyewitnesses, the crowd of passengers on the platform was very sparse. Suddenly, a section of the tin shed approximately 60 to 70 feet in length, snapped and hung precariously downwards. TTE Bhupendra, along with passengers Abhishek and Sahil, became trapped beneath it.

Chaos ensued at the station following the accident. The Howrah-Dehradun Express, which had already arrived at the platform, was halted just short of the accident site.

Railway police personnel rushed to the scene, where they found three individuals the TTE and two passengers trapped beneath the tin shed. RPF personnel lifted the shed to extricate them. The TTE and both passengers were subsequently taken to Alambagh Hospital. The TTE sustained fractures to both of his legs in the accident.
