Four Months Into Marriage, Dehradun Woman Allegedly Harassed for Dowry and Given Triple Talaq

Dehradun: A case involving dowry harassment and ‘Triple Talaq’ has come to light in Patel Nagar, Dehradun. Here, a woman has accused her husband of harassing her for dowry, physically assaulting her, and evicting her from their home after pronouncing ‘Triple Talaq.’ Based on the complaint, the police have registered a case against the accused and have initiated an investigation.

Kausar, a resident of Punjabi Colony within the Patel Nagar police station jurisdiction, stated in her written complaint to the police that her marriage (Nikah) to Alsaf was solemnized on January 26, 2026, in accordance with Muslim rites and rituals. The woman alleges that shortly after the marriage, her husband began consuming alcohol, physically assaulting her, and pressuring her to bring money from her parental home.

Triple Talaq Threat Alleged Over Dowry Demand

According to the victim, when she was unable to bring money from her parental home, her husband began repeatedly threatening to pronounce ‘Triple Talaq’ upon her. The woman states that she endured this abuse for a long time in an effort to save her marriage; however, on May 18, 2026, her husband, in a fit of rage, pronounced ‘Triple Talaq’ and declared the termination of their marital relationship.

In her written complaint, the woman has further alleged that her husband’s actions constitute a violation of the rights of Muslim women as well as Indian law. According to her, following the pronouncement of ‘Triple Talaq,’ her husband also refused to allow her to continue living with him.

Security Sought Over Husband’s Threats

The victim informed the police that she currently faces a mental and physical threat from her husband and his associates. She has demanded that her safety be ensured and that strict legal action be taken against the accused.

Taking the matter seriously, the Patel Nagar police have registered a case against the accused under Sections 3/4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act, the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act, and relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The police have stated that the matter is currently under investigation, and further action will be taken based on the facts that emerge during the inquiry.
