Trump says second US crew member rescued in Iran

New York: Donald Trump said the second crew member of a US plane shot down by Iran has been rescued in a military operation deep inside the country.

“We got him,” Trump said in a post on Truth Social just after midnight. “I am thrilled to let you know he is now safe and sound!”

The officer, described as a “highly respected colonel,” was on the F-15E Strike Eagle that was brought down by Iran on Friday.

Jet downed, crew ejected during mission

Both crew members on the jet ejected during a mission over Iran. The pilot was rescued shortly after in a search-and-rescue mission, while efforts continued to locate the colonel.

US aircraft had intensified strikes within Iran and had earlier destroyed a key bridge leading to Tehran. Iran had reportedly placed a bounty on the colonel, raising concerns he could be used as leverage if captured.

Warning to Iran amid rising tensions

Earlier, Trump warned Iran to open up the Strait of Hormuz, issuing a strong message on social media.

“Time is running out — 48 hours before all Hell will reign down on them,” he said.

He added that the operation demonstrated US military strength, claiming “overwhelming Air Dominance and Superiority over the Iranian skies.”

Complex rescue operation carried out

Trump said dozens of US aircraft, armed with advanced weapons, were deployed to retrieve the officer from “behind enemy lines” in mountainous terrain.

The colonel sustained injuries but is expected to recover. Reports suggested aircraft dropped bombs on Iranian forces approaching the officer, and a firefight also took place during the mission.

Additionally, a A-10 Warthog reportedly crashed near the Strait of Hormuz, though its pilot was safely rescued outside Iranian territory.

Air crew used beacons and communication devices to aid rescue teams, while helicopters and troops were deployed to complete the operation.
