Uttarakhand BJP Chief Urges No Controversial Claims Ahead

Dehradun, Uttarakhand: With the 2027 assembly elections approaching, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state president Mahendra Bhatt issued a strong call on March 4, 2026, urging party workers and leaders to refrain from making unnecessary claims that could trigger controversy. In an interview with Amar Ujala, Bhatt emphasized that responsible party members should maintain discipline and focus on the real work of strengthening the party’s prospects rather than engaging in divisive rhetoric.

As political activity intensifies in the state, where the BJP is seeking to retain power, Bhatt’s comments come amid ongoing discussions about candidate selection and preparation for the polls. He stressed that internal coordination and a collective focus on winning should be the priority in the coming months.

Focus on Winning Candidates, Not Controversy

Bhatt made it clear that the BJP’s approach to the upcoming election will be guided by electability and performance rather than internal bickering or unwarranted claims by leaders. He pointed out that the party will not entertain unnecessary contestation over candidature that could create debate or confusion among workers and supporters.

In his remarks, the BJP chief said: “Those who hold responsibility should not create situations of controversy with unnecessary claims. Our aim must be to put forward candidates who can win and serve the people.” He reiterated that the party’s focus should be on grassroots organization, public outreach and collective effort to secure victory.

Bhatt also underlined that the BJP is conducting internal surveys to identify potential candidates who have the best chances of winning in various constituencies, ensuring a data-driven approach to ticket allocation. “The BJP will field candidates who are electorally viable and capable of representing the state,” he said.

Clarifying Role of Party Leaders and Workers

Addressing the role of party leaders and workers, Bhatt urged them to refrain from personal ambitions overshadowing collective goals. He reminded them that the lotus symbol of the BJP should be their focus, and that they should work together with discipline rather than indulge in bitter debates or speculative claims.

Bhatt’s appeal was aimed equally at seasoned politicians and newer members who are eager to contest elections or take on leadership roles. He emphasized that the final choice of candidates will be made by the party based on surveys, ground reality and the overarching objective of securing a strong mandate.

    Cabinet Expansion and Party Strategy

In the interview, Bhatt also hinted at the possibility of a cabinet expansion in the state. He mentioned that the BJP is expecting the final list of leaders and assignments from the central leadership soon, which could lead to filling of the five current vacant positions in the Cabinet. Such changes may be announced in March 2026 as part of broader electoral preparations.

This move is seen as part of the party’s strategy to energies governance and reinforce leadership ahead of the polls, enabling BJP to present a rejuvenated face to voters.

Bhatt on Opposition and Election Narrative

Bhatt also criticized the state’s opposition, particularly the Congress, for what he described as focus on emotional politics rather than substantive public issues. He cited examples of previous elections where the BJP succeeded, suggesting that voters priorities development and governance over rhetoric.

Bhatt’s statements signal that the BJP is gearing up for a disciplined campaign ahead of 2027 prioritizing organizational unity, strategic candidate selection, and a clear focus on public service, while discouraging controversies that could divert attention from core electoral goals.
