Severe Cold Wave in Uttarakhand: Temperatures Dip to -21°C, Fog Alert Issued Till January 12

Dehradun: Frost in the mountainous regions of Uttarakhand has intensified the cold, causing water pipelines to freeze in Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Uttarkashi, and Pithoragarh. Meanwhile, Chakrata in Dehradun recorded a temperature of -1°C, causing water to freeze. Dew was visible here this morning.

According to the Meteorological Department, today i.e. on 9th December, there will be fog in the lower areas of Haridwar, Udham Singh Nagar, Nainital, Champawat, Pauri and Dehradun.

Mercury Plunges to -21°C in Kedarnath and Adi Kailash

Apart from this, the temperature of two cities has been recorded at -21°C for two consecutive days, which includes Adi Kailash of Pithoragarh and Kedarnath Dham of Rudraprayag.

So here in Uttarkashi, the temperature of Yamunotri Dham was recorded at -16°C, -8°C in Munsyari, -17 in Badrinath, -10 in Hemkund Sahib, and -14°C in Harshil.

No Relief From Cold Till January 12

Despite dry weather in Uttarakhand, cold weather continues. The weather will remain dry in the state today as well. Dense fog is likely in parts of Udham Singh Nagar, Haridwar, Nainital, Champawat, Napauri, and the plains of Dehradun. A yellow alert has been issued for this purpose. The weather will remain the same until January 12th.

There’s no sign of any change in the weather at this time. Bright sunshine during the day and chilling cold at night are bone-chilling in the morning and evening.

Hospitals Witness Surge in Cold-Related Illnesses

Due to the steadily decreasing temperature, the number of patients in hospitals has also begun to rise. The cold air causes the blood vessels in the nose and throat to constrict, increasing the risk of infection. These days, Doon Medical College is seeing twice the number of outpatient clinics.

Doctors have urged people to pay attention to their clothing. They have advised people to pay special attention to their clothing and avoid consuming cold foods. Those with low immunity, as well as those with respiratory and diabetes issues, have also been advised to pay attention and drink lukewarm water.

Dehradun Remains Cold, Air Quality Poor

The cold weather continues to linger in the capital, Dehradun. The weather was clear on Friday morning, with the morning temperature settling at around 5 degrees Celsius. According to the Meteorological Department, the maximum temperature is expected to be between 19 and 21 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature is expected to be around 5 degrees Celsius.

Light, cool winds are blowing in the area, with speeds of about 8 kilometers per hour. The chill is more pronounced in the morning and evening, forcing people to wear warm clothing.

The Meteorological Department said that there is no possibility of rain in the next 24 hours and the weather is expected to remain clear throughout the day.

However, Dehradun’s air quality remains a concern. The city’s Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 153, which falls in the “Poor” category. Experts have advised children, the elderly, and those with respiratory problems to avoid going outside in the morning.
