Hailstorm in Nainital, Rain in Three Districts; 30 Tourists Stranded at Tehri Lake, Hoarding Collapses in Almora

Dehradun: Rainfall occurred this morning in three districts of Uttarakhand: Dehradun, Nainital, and Udham Singh Nagar. Heavy hailstorms were reported in several areas of Nainital, including Haldwani, Kotbagh, Kaladhungi, and Khurpatal. Meanwhile, light rain is currently falling in Pachwadun (Dehradun) and Khatima (Udham Singh Nagar).

The Meteorological Department has forecast the possibility of rain across all districts today. Warnings regarding rain and snowfall have been issued for the hilly regions. The next 24 hours are considered critical for five specific districts.

Light to moderate rainfall is likely in numerous locations across the districts of Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar, and Pithoragarh. Additionally, heavy snowfall accompanied by thunderstorms is anticipated in areas situated at altitudes of 4,000 meters or higher. In the remaining districts of the state, conditions involving light rain and thunderstorms may persist in isolated pockets.

The weather center has issued a ‘Yellow Alert’ for the entire state. There is a possibility of lightning strikes accompanied by thunderstorms in scattered locations across all districts. Gusty winds, blowing at speeds of 40–50 kmph, are expected in both the plains and the hilly regions.

Tourists stranded at Tehri Lake; hoarding collapses in Almora

Before this specifically on Saturday rain was reported in eight districts: Almora, Bageshwar, Dehradun, Nainital, Rudraprayag, Uttarkashi, Udham Singh Nagar, and Pithoragarh. Hail, accompanied by rain and strong winds, has fallen across five districts: Pithoragarh, Uttarkashi, Nainital, Udham Singh Nagar, and Dehradun.

At Tehri Lake, a sudden storm damaged the floating hutments and several were swept away. Approximately 25–30 people were stranded in the Dobra-Chanti lake area and were subsequently rescued by an SDRF team. Meanwhile, a late-evening storm created a chaotic atmosphere in Almora town; the storm caused the railing of the Municipal Corporation building to collapse and damaged several two-wheelers.
