Uttarakhand madrasa probe over children from other states

Children are being brought from other states to madrasas in Uttarakhand for admission, after which the state government has issued orders to inspect all madrasas in four districts: Dehradun, Haridwar, Udham Singh Nagar, and Nainital.

The government has received complaints that children from other states are being brought and kept in these madrasas. CM Pushkar Singh Dhami has asked officials for an investigation report. The issue came to light when Bajrang Dal worker Aman Swadia caught a person at Dehradun railway station, who brings children from Bihar and gets them admitted to madrasas in Dehradun.

A video related to the incident has also emerged, in which a Muslim person can be heard saying that he has come from Bihar and has come to drop off three children at madrasas. When one of the children was asked what is taught in the madrasa, the child replied

We are taught to become deserving of paradise and to be saved from the fire of hell.

A 13-year-old child in third grade, a 10-year-old child in fourth grade

When children were asked which class they study in, a 13-year-old child said that he studies in third grade. Meanwhile, another 10-year-old child said that he studies in fourth grade. Hearing the answers, Bajrang Dal workers and the people present nearby were shocked.

After this, the matter was immediately reported to the police. To verify everyone’s details, the police took them to Lakhbagh police post near Dehradun Railway Station.

3 questions asked to DMs of four districts

According to Dr. Parag Madhukar Dhakate, Special Secretary of the Minority Welfare Department, the DMs of all four districts have been instructed to conduct thorough verification of madrassas in their areas. The government has asked the district officers for answers to 3 questions-
