Uttarakhand: Teacher Transfers in the State to be Based on Requests, Not Mandatory

In the state, teacher transfers will be conducted on a request basis rather than on a mandatory basis. Following a consensus reached during a meeting held under Section 27 presided over by the Chief Secretary, the relevant file has been forwarded to Chief Minister Dhami for approval.

According to Education Minister Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat, the High Court has currently stayed mandatory transfers based solely on the distinction between “accessible” (Sugam) and “inaccessible” (Durgam) areas.

The government has already filed its response in the High Court; until a verdict is delivered in this case, transfers will be carried out on a case-by-case basis.

Under this framework, teachers’ transfers will be effected on grounds such as their own illness, the illness of a spouse or children, the desire for a husband and wife to be posted at the same location, widowhood or widower status, transfers from accessible to inaccessible areas, transfers between two inaccessible areas, and based on being aged 55 years or older.

According to the Education Minister, applications will be invited from teachers for transfers based on these requests. Instructions to this effect have already been issued to the concerned officials.
