Rain Likely in Uttarakhand; Snowfall Continues in Pithoragarh, Hail Hits 6 Districts

Rain is likely in most parts of Uttarakhand today. According to the department, in the hilly areas of the state, there is a possibility of very light to light rain with occasional thunderstorms. Meanwhile, snowfall is expected in areas above 4200 meters in height.

A yellow alert has been issued for the hilly districts, warning that there is a strong likelihood of lightning with thunder and gusty winds blowing at 30-40 km per hour in some places. Meanwhile, the plains districts of the state are expected to have dry weather for now.

Travelers and local residents venturing into high-altitude areas are advised to remain cautious due to changing weather and strong winds. After yesterday’s rain, fog was seen in the mountains.

There was heavy snowfall in the Vyas Valley and severe hailstorm in Gangolihat, which caused the Timta-Bungli road to close due to landslides. Meanwhile, in Mussoorie, Dehradun, the Jaunti area of Almora, Pauri, New Tehri, and Gopeshwar in Chamoli, hail has caused a drop in temperature.

Most rain in Champawat, least in Pauri

In Uttarakhand, there was heavy rainfall in April this year, resulting in 18% more rain than average in the state. According to the Meteorological Department’s data, the most rainfall in Kumaon was recorded in Champawat district at 78.7 mm, which is 212% higher than normal, while Pauri Garhwal received the least rain.

During this time, there are chances of thunderbolt with thunder and strong gusty winds blowing at a speed of 30-40 km per hour.

Today, the maximum temperature is expected to be around 35°C and the minimum temperature around 17°C. In view of the changing weather, people have been advised to stay alert.

Weather forecast for the next three days

May 2 – Light rain and thunderstorms are likely in some areas of Dehradun, Almora, Tehri, Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar, and Pithoragarh districts. Snowfall may occur in areas above 4200 meters, while the weather will remain dry in the rest of the state’s districts.

May 3 – Light to moderate rain is expected in the hilly districts of the state, along with snowfall in areas above 4000 meters. In the plains districts, very light rain and chances of thunderstorms are also expected in some places.

May 4 – Light to moderate rain and thunderstorms are likely at many places in Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar, and Pithoragarh, while in the remaining districts, it is likely at a few places. Snowfall is expected in areas above 4000 meters.
