Uttarakhand Weather: Heat Begins Setting Records in Second Week of March; Snowfall on Peaks of Badrinath

Since the very beginning of March, the heat has been making its presence felt in Uttarakhand. Although forecasts over the past few days predicted rain due to overcast skies in the plains and fog in the hills, this did not materialize; instead, the heat set new records within just the second week of the month.

Looking at the statistics for Dehradun on Thursday, the maximum temperature was recorded at 34.1 degrees, an increase of eight degrees above normal. The minimum night-time temperature was also recorded at 16.9 degrees, four degrees higher than normal.

Meanwhile, in the hilly region of Mukteshwar, the maximum temperature stood at 25.1 degrees, eight degrees above normal, while the minimum was recorded at 10.5 degrees, an increase of five degrees above normal.

The situation remained similar in other parts of the state as well. According to the forecast issued by the Meteorological Centre, the weather across the state will remain dry on March 13.

Consequently, both maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to remain above normal levels. Looking ahead, light rainfall is predicted in the higher-altitude regions of the state until March 17. Meanwhile, a press release issued by the Centre noted that temperatures across the state have risen over the past 24 hours.

Heavy snowfall occurred on the hills surrounding Badrinath Dham on Thursday. Snowfall had also taken place at the Dham just two days prior. On Thursday, the weather across the district had taken a turn since early morning.

Although the lower-lying areas did not receive any rain, the peaks of Badrinath have turned pristine white with snow. The snowfall has rendered the weather at the Dham delightful; however, the cold has also intensified significantly within the shrine area.
