Uttarakhand Weather: Orange Alert for Hailstorm, Strong Winds

Dehradun – The weather in Uttarakhand has once again changed, bringing rain to many parts of the state and snowfall to higher altitudes. While the weather is active in the hilly districts, the plains are also expected to remain cloudy and receive light rain.

Temperatures have dropped in the capital Dehradun amid light drizzle. Clouds remained overcast since Sunday morning, and the weather remained pleasant throughout the day.

Rain and Snowfall in Mountainous Areas

Light to moderate rain occurred in Mussoorie and surrounding areas in the afternoon. Meanwhile, light snowfall was recorded in Kedarnath and Badrinath in the evening, while showers occurred in surrounding areas.

According to the Meteorological Center, light to moderate rain and thundershowers are expected at many places in Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Bageshwar, and Pithoragarh districts. Snowfall is also possible in areas with an altitude of 3300 meters or more.

Orange and Yellow Alerts Issued
The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar, and Pithoragarh districts. These areas are warned of lightning, hailstorms, and strong winds of up to 40 to 50 kilometers per hour.

In addition, a yellow alert has been issued for other mountainous regions of the state, where thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds are expected.

Impact in the plains as well, temperatures drop
Partly cloudy skies and light rain are expected in the plains, including Dehradun. The recent drizzle has caused a drop of about 2 degrees Celsius in temperatures.

Temperatures in Dehradun recorded a maximum of 27.4 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 18.8 degrees Celsius. Udham Singh Nagar recorded a maximum of 32.8 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 15.4 degrees Celsius, Mukteshwar recorded 21.6 degrees Celsius and 9.2 degrees Celsius, while New Tehri recorded 16.5 degrees Celsius and 9.6 degrees Celsius.

According to the Meteorological Department, this change in weather in the state is likely to persist for some time.
