Yellow Alert Issued in Uttarakhand as Dense Fog and Cold Disrupt Roads, Railways, and Flights

Dehradun: A yellow alert for cold has been issued for six districts of Uttarakhand today, December 27th. Fog is prevalent in the lower areas of Haridwar, Udham Singh Nagar, Nainital, Champawat, Dehradun, and Pauri. The rest of the area is cloudy.

Meteorologists say that the fog will bring dry cold to the plains as well as the mountainous regions. However, the weather will remain dry throughout the state until December 29th. Rain and snow are expected in parts of Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Pithoragarh, and Rudraprayag on December 30th and 31st and January 1st.

Dense fog may increase problems

Additionally, snowfall is also expected in areas above 3,500 meters. This will have a direct impact on temperatures across the state. According to the IMD, the minimum temperature in Dehradun will be around 8 degrees Celsius, while night temperatures in the plains could drop even lower.

Dense fog and cold day conditions are disrupting life in most of the plains of the state, including Dehradun. On Friday, dense fog enveloped Udham Singh Nagar, Haridwar, and Dehradun districts since morning, further exacerbating the cold.

Bitter cold is felt in the morning and evening, while brief periods of sunshine during the day brought some relief. In contrast, the weather in the hilly areas remained relatively clear, and temperatures were recorded above normal due to the bright sunshine.

According to the Meteorological Department, the weather is expected to remain dry in the state for the next three days, but moderate to dense fog may worsen problems in the plains. In view of this, a yellow alert has been issued for a cold day.

Fog increases problems for rail passengers

Dense fog and a cold wave severely affected train operations on Friday. The railway canceled the Kamakhya-Anand Vihar Terminal Delhi Weekly Express, Jammu Tawi-Tirupati, and Humsafar Express trains passing through Laksar. Additionally, the Amritsar-Purnia Court-Amritsar and Janseva Express trains were canceled both ways.

Additionally, 11 trains arrived at Laksar station with delays ranging from four to 11 hours, while 12 trains arrived with delays ranging from one to three hours. Meanwhile, the Upasana Express from Howrah arrived in Dehradun around midnight instead of 6 pm. It departs from Dehradun at 9:45 pm. It has been rescheduled for 2 am.

Passengers are upset at Pantnagar Airport

Meteorologists say that low visibility could impact traffic and air services. The fog is particularly affecting air services. IndiGo’s second flight from Delhi to Pantnagar was canceled on Friday due to poor visibility.

The flight, scheduled to depart from Delhi at 1:05 pm and arrive in Pantnagar at 2 pm, had to be cancelled due to extremely poor visibility at the airport, causing significant inconvenience to passengers.

Road accident due to dense fog

Road traffic has also been affected by the fog. Dense fog in the Bajpur area of ​​Udham Singh Nagar caused a major road accident. On Friday morning, while a royalty team was checking mining vehicles, the vehicle coming from behind suddenly applied brakes and collided with a parked truck.

In the accident, the 21-year-old driver, Shoaib, son of Mohammad Shah, a resident of Bareilly, was seriously injured, while the conductor, Musharraf, suffered minor injuries. Following the accident, a long traffic jam formed on the road, which the police and administration had to struggle to clear.
